Annual Interhouse Athletics Carnival Details

The Annual Interhouse Athletics Carnival will be held on the school oval on Thursday 8 September 2016. If the weather is unsuitable, the carnival will be held on Tuesday 20 September 2016. The carnival will involve all students from Year 7 to Year 12 and is a compulsory school days. Information about the day is available by reading more.

The carnival this year aims to be inclusive for all students with students rotating in their year groups through the various events. All students will spend time at each event competing with and supporting students in their year group.

All traditional school Athletic events will be held on the carnival day with the exception of some events that will be held pre carnival (including the 400m, 800m and 1500m track events). A novelty station will also be included in the rotation that includes events like Tunnelball, Leaderball and Tug of War. A recent survey by some of our older students indicated that they would be keen to participate in these kinds of events. Year groups will spend 45 minutes at each event and then move on to the next event. The carnival will commence at 9.30am, after a contact class attendance check at 9.00am. There will be breaks for recess and lunch. The carnival day will conclude at 3:20pm following a final contact class attendance check.

Students will be able to wear their Physical Education uniform to the carnival but are encouraged to wear house coloured shirts. There will be opportunity for senior school students to dress up in this years “Super Hero” theme with the provision they are able to compete efficiently in the Athletic events.

Students will be issued with a “Participation Passport”. After an event they will have their Passport signed by officiating staff. Students who participate in at least four events will have their Passports collected and two winners per year group will be randomly selected and awarded a prize. (Gift Voucher $25)

The Specialist Basketball Program Parent Committee will be operating a sausage sizzle and drinks stall on the day. Other food stalls include Pizza Man, Icecream van, Boost Juice caravan and Coffee/Hot Chocolate will be available from the Hospitality Centre. We are aiming to have a “carnival” atmosphere: these facilities will enable students both to compete and to have fun.

Please encourage your child to attend this carnival. This is the last opportunity for Year 12 students to participate in a school carnival. The day will be competitive but also fun because all students will be able to participate in events with their friends and peers. The carnival offers a number of positive opportunities for students to display their character strengths and attributes. Your support will ensure the continuation of these whole school events. Further information will be distributed to students and parents closer to the carnival day.
