Book Week in the Learning Resource Centre

The theme for this year’s book week was “Australia – Story Country”. This year a guest speaker was organised to celebrate along with a number of special events and competitions.

An extra special book club meeting was held on Tuesday 23 August to celebrate “Children’s Book Week”. Over 40 members from Year 7 to Year 12 came to discuss their favourite Australian authors and to provide book-related food for the book feast competition. Winners of the book feast competition were Jenna H, Chelsea W, Jenny R and Phoebe M for their joint effort creating a “Titan” cake.

This year the Book Week poster contained 38 images from Australian picture books. The LRC ran a competition asking students to find the 38 book titles. Winners of the poster competition were Year 7 students Letisha S and Tayla M.

On Wednesday 24 August, guest speaker Hetty Verolm spoke of her experiences during World War Two, as a holocaust survivor, to a group of Year 7 students and staff in the LRC.

During the week Year 7 and Year 8 reading class students had fun participating in a short quiz about the short-listed books for the 2016 “Book of the Year” awards.
