Chinese Cooking Demonstration

Approximately 30 of our Asian Bridges Club students were refining their Chinese culinary (and eating) skills at our regular Wednesday lunch time meeting.

Students sampled some zong zi which are rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves. Zong zi are made and eaten particularly around Dragon Festival, a Chinese festival which was on 30 May. Students had fun wrapping the savoury (sausage filled) or sweet (date filled) zong zi, with the ultimate challenge of keeping the rice in the bamboo wrapping while making it, taking it home and cooking it. They all planned to eat it at home that night after boiling it in a pot for one and a half hours. Thanks so much to Ms Sai Sai Wu, our assistant teacher from Confucius Institute, for all her preparation and her demonstration skills.
