Art work by Annie T

Year 11 and 12 ATAR students complete a substantial artwork each semester. These artworks must fit into a theme, but students choose their own medium and decide what ideas their artwork will reflect. Annie T, who graduated last year, created her sculpture ‘Shelf Life’ in response to theme of ‘points of view’. The work examines the medical industries ability to ‘play God’ regarding experiments with genetic engineering. The work is a mixed media piece using wood, ceramics, glass and electrical components. Annie built the whole sculpture without assistance, and utilised a number of skills including wood work and clay work to complete it. The artwork features parts of human anatomy placed in a sterile medical setting, lit with florescent light. Annie says she was influenced by Australian ceramics artist Rosalie Gascoigne and got the idea for the project in her Human Biology class.

Annie’s work has been purchased by the school, and will have pride of place in the Science Department.
