From the Principal's Desk - End of Term 3

It seems incredible to think that we are at the end of Term 3. Where has the school year gone? Our College is very busy with activities taking place all of the time. I encourage you to regularly visit our College website to read of the latest news. Boots (our College companion dog), cooking at the Royal Show and the recent Book Week are “trending” at the moment!

Congratulations to Mrs Lesley Wellington, one of our Laboratory Technicians, who has advanced to the finalist stage in the WA Education Awards in the WA School Services Staff Member of the Year category.  We look forward to attending the breakfast later in Term 4 at which the winners will be announced.

Athletics Carnival

Our interhouse athletics carnival was a great success.  Feedback from students is that they enjoyed the changed format that allowed for maximum participation of all students with both regular and novelty events.  There was a real carnival atmosphere with the different refreshments available and activities occurring constantly.  A huge thank you to Health and Phys Ed staff in particular who worked hard for many weeks to ensure that it was a fun day for all.

Connect

The College sent an email three weeks ago inviting parents/caregivers to have electronic access to their children’s marks and attendance record. Many families have taken up the offer. If you do not have this access and would like it, please be advised that the Parent Registration Form is located on our website.

Staffing

At the end of this week we will farewell Miss Verity Brean who has been working in our Music department to cover for the leave of Ms Matthews. Our new Arts HoLA, Mrs Ruth MacDonald, will be joining us from week 3 of next term.  Mrs MacDonald has a Masters of Music Education, a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and is a former Chief Examiner and marker of Music WACE exams.  She has considerable Music teaching experience, together with working in Arts teams to mount whole school Arts events.  We are very much looking forward to welcoming Mrs MacDonald to our College, just as she is very much looking forward to joining us and working with our Arts team and the Music Parent Committee.

Year 12

For most Year 12s this has been their last full week of regular lessons.  ATAR students have their mock exams in the holidays and week 1 of next term, returning in week 2.  Non-ATAR students are able to attend the College during those first few weeks in order to complete any outstanding work.  I encourage all students to take up every opportunity to finalise their work to ensure that they maximise their chances of completing every Certificate course undertaken and of achieving their WACE.

Finally

I will be accessing long service leave during Term 4.  Mr Grant Richards will be acting Principal during my absence.  Ms Sue McKay will be acting Associate Principal during that time.

I wish all in our College community a relaxing holiday break - let’s hope that it is much warmer - and a fulfilling Term 4.  I look forward to working with you all again in 2017.
