Joondalup Twilight Festival

The project evolved from a letter written by students in the Asian Bridges Club addressed to Mayor Troy Pickard. Since then16 dedicated Year 8 – 10 students have been busily designing and bringing to life their huge dragon lantern, which they will unleash at the City of Joondalup’s 2017 Lantern Parade during their weekend-long festival. The parade commences at Joondalup’s North Metropolitan TAFE, then circles central Joondalup, before returning to the TAFE in time for the award announcements at 7:15pm.

Our dragon, named Elemental, is a huge 12 metres in length. It has been largely created in seven two hour after-school workshops made from rattan and welded plastic, and is dramatically lit with LED lights. It should be a stand-out in the parade, not only for its size and lights, but because of its kaleidoscope of colours representing fire, air, water and earth. The students have been guided since late last year by artist, Calvin Chee, and are deservedly proud of their achievement. Please join us to see Elemental come to life in what should prove to be a magical twilight evening.

After the parade we plan Elemental to be a resident of the College’s Learning Resource Centre.
