Lantern Parade 2017: Woodvale's Dragon

Fifteen Year 7-9 students are having fun busily designing and making a huge dragon lantern which they will unleash in the City of Joondalup’s 2017 Lantern Parade Festival. They are being guided by artist, Calvin Chee.

It is being made in after-school workshops from rice paper, rattan and welded plastic and will be comprised of a kaleidoscope of colours representing fire, air, water and earth. It is anticipated that our dragon, yet to be named, will grow to a huge 12 metres in length. After the parade we plan for it to be a permanent resident of the College.

The project evolved from a letter written by students in the Asian Bridges Club addressed to Mayor Troy Pickard.
