Pursuing Excellence at the 2017 National Brain Bee Championship

Erwin B, Year 10, has just returned from Sydney for the Australian and New Zealand Brain Bee Challenge. Erwin was the sole Western Australian representative, competing against eight students from Australian States and Territories and New Zealand.

Erwin’s preparation for the competition was intense. He studied textbooks on Neuroscience, typically reserved for second year university courses.

All students were required to compete in four gruelling rounds. At the end of the first day, Erwin was in second place following a written test, anatomy and histology challenge and a patient diagnosis challenge.

The second day of competition proved more challenging with the final question and answer section held in front of a live audience at the International Convention Centre in Sydney. Competition was fierce during the round with limited time to answer questions.

Erwin completed the National competition in an impressive fourth place from an original entry pool of thousands.

Woodvale Secondary College is incredibly proud of Erwin’s passion and excellence in this field and we wish him success in his future studies. He’s on track to fulfil his dream of going into medicine.
