Woodvale Exceed Expectations at Interschool Athletics

On Monday 19 October, Woodvale Secondary College competed in the Western Australian State School Sports C Division Interschool Athletics Carnival held at the WA Athletics Stadium. Many of the students selected for the team were required to fill in events on the day which they hadn’t nominated for. Woodvale Secondary College achieved third place in the carnival, not only successfully avoiding relegation, but earning an elevation to B division. This result is a major achievement and a true reflection of the attitude and commitment shown by all the students who attended the carnival.

On Monday 19 October, Woodvale Secondary College competed in the Western Australian State School Sports C Division Interschool Athletics Carnival held at the WA Athletics Stadium. Heading in to this was challenging because WSC unfortunately had to cancel their Interhouse Athletics Carnival due to poor weather conditions. Hoping to avoid relegation to D Division the Physical Education Department, led by Athletics Coach Miss Kylie Green were able to put together a squad to compete. Many of the students selected were required to fill in events on the day which they hadn’t nominated for. Woodvale Secondary College achieved third place in the carnival, not only successfully avoiding relegation, but earning an elevation to B division. This result is a major achievement and a true reflection of the attitude and commitment shown by all the students who attended the carnival.

Jacob N showed class throughout the day with his performances winning 6 out of the 7 events he competed in. Jacob was awarded Year 10 Champion Boy.

It was a good day for Liam G in Year 9 drawing a lot of attention by breaking a thirty three year old Shot Put record in the State Schools Competition with a result of 16.85 metres. Following this, he bettered his performance last year by breaking his own state-wide record in Discus with a throw of 56.10 metres.

Four other students were particularly outstanding on the day: Aspen W (Year 9), Kian P (Year 9), Tayla C, (Year 10) and Eyosias R (Year 11) who all achieved Runner-up Champion Boy and Girl for each of their respective year groups.

Woodvale Secondary College staff are extremely proud of the effort all students displayed during this carnival setting the College a fantastic challenge in 2016 when they compete in their new division.
