Year 9 Academic Enrichment Science Excursion to Harry Perkins Institute BioDiscovery Centre

On Monday 5 December the Year 9 Science AE class visited the BioDiscovery Centre at the Harry Perkins Institute. Students had the opportunity to enrich their classroom studies on Biology by working with leading medical researchers. They were highly engaged in laboratory techniques involved in diagnosing diabetes, utilising technology (including glucose meters, an ELIZA protocol and spectrophotometry) to determine glucose and insulin levels in patient samples. Using the digital technologies they analysed patient samples and arrived at possible treatment plans. Students gained an insight into medical research as a future career path and had a tour of the world renowned research facilities.
