From the Principal

Paul LeechWoodvale SHS is widely recognised as being one of the best public schools in the state. Our goal is to encourage students to maximise their potential in a friendly and supportive environment.

We are recognised as being in the Top Ten Schools category in 2006-2008 based on our outstanding results in the Tertiary Entrance Exam and Wholly School Assessed subjects. We have been recognised by the Chamber of Minerals and Energy as being one of the Top Five Science and Technology schools. The school exceeded international standards in English, Mathematics and Science in the 2006 International PISA test and was in the top quartile for state MSE results in 2006-2008.

Information Technology

Woodvale has a substantial investment in the area of Information Technology. The campus features an integrated network of over 500 up to date computers. Continuous training is provided for all staff and a major policy thrust in the school is directed at increasing the area of the technology for curriculum delivery.

In addition to the above general features of the school, special programmes are offered as follows:

Academic Extension

Entry is based on merit for those students in years 8 - 10 who demonstrate academic talent.

Music
The Music programme at Woodvale Senior High School is a Department of Education and Training recognised specialist programme and as such admission to this programme is through an application process. The process involves an interview and performance testing.  Academic aptitude and ability is also an essential criteria for selection.

The programme includes instrumental training leading to concert band performance (Brass, Woodwind, Percussion), for students who demonstrate aptitude and application. Academic music courses through to University Music are also available.

Vocational Programmes
The school offers all students in Year 10 Work Experience opportunities. At Year 11 and 12 levels a programme called INSTEP provides a joint Industry/School based course that has a strong Work Experience component and a Vocational Mining Programme offers site based experience through a partnership with the Homestake Mining Company.

Sporting Programmes of Excellence
This school also offers two specialist programmes in sport, being Basketball and Soccer. Admission to these programmes, which are recognised by the Department of Education, is through interview, academic skill and skill selection  trials. Further information on these programmes can be viewed from the Specialist Programmes pages on this web site.

Languages
Japanese is available for years 8-12 and features a sister school relationship with Aboshi High School in Hyogo. The programme features a bi-annual exchange for 15-16 year old students from both schools.

So if you live in the area, or are thinking of buying in Perth and schooling is a priority, investigate the northern suburbs and at the same time check us out.
