SOCCER SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE

BACKGROUND:

Woodvale SHS is the only Department of Education and Training approved Specialist Soccer Program located in the Northern Suburbs.  The program caters for both genders, with classes for boys and girls in both lower and upper school.  The program commenced in 2000 and caters for all year groups (8 – 12).


AIMS OF THE PROGRAM :

To develop skills, attitudes and knowledge in students that will enable them to compete successfully in soccer, at the highest levels.

·          Develop individual skills :

Passing                 Ball control
Heading                 Dribbling
Shooting                Tackling

·          Develop team skills :

Team formations                    Set plays
Principles of defence             Principles of attack

·          Provide information relating to diet and nutrition.
·          Develop coaching skills culminating in a Junior Coaching License.
·          Understand the rules for refereeing, culminating in a Level One Refereeing Certificate.
·          Participate in Sportsfun program.
·          Participate in fitness and weight training sessions.
·          Provide work experience in the Soccer Industry. (when requested)
·          Understand the physiological requirements for soccer.

SELECTION :

Each year applications are invited from boys and girls, focusing on the Northern suburbs.  Students need to meet the standards of behaviour, academic performance and soccer performance to be successful at trials.  Students are expected to maintain a satisfactory standard of performance throughout their time in the program.  Students may be expected to be involved in a number of different selection trials.


INTERSCHOOL FIXTURES :

All year groups will participate in The Champion Schools Soccer Competition.  This competition is run during Terms two and three.  Fixtures are played after school with approximately one game per fortnight.

ACCESS :

Woodvale SHS is located in the heart of the northern suburbs and is close to the northern rail system.  Trains link with buses directly to the school.


COURSE FEES :

Course fees are required for match costs, equipment and some travel.  An additional fee for the purchase of a training strip is required.  Course costs will be itemised as will any other extras such as tours and specific excursions.

INTERNATIONAL TOURS

In 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008 groups toured Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.
This is a bi-annual event open to Year 10 – 12 students, male and female.

group tours Geraldton

during Term 2.

EXCURSIONS :

The Specialist Soccer Program will endeavour to watch National and Over-seas teams when in Perth for high profile tourna-ments.  (eg  Socceroos, Olyroos, Young Matildas, Sampdoria, West Ham, Joeys, Pre Olympic Tournament.)
