Woodvale Emergency Cadets

Woodvale Emergency Cadets has been operating for over 10 years and provides students with leadership opportunities and teaches them a wide range of emergency service skills.  

 

The Cadets have achieved success in Community Service Awards and Emergency Services of the Year awards. Membership is open to Years 7 (over the age of 12) to Year 12 students from the College.  

 

The unit meets every Monday except public holidays between 15:30 and 17:30 and participants take part in a range of curriculum including: 

    • First aid and emergency care 
    • Radio communication 
    • Fire safety and basic fire fighting 
    • Search and rescue techniques 
    • Boating and water safety 
    • Map reading and navigation. 
    • Field craft and camping 
    • Leadership and instructional training. 

 

The unit takes part in several camps and excursions each year and in the past has visited Harvey, Dwellingup, Toodyay, Albany and Hillarys. 

 

The unit is supported by Department for Communities and our host organisation is the Department of Fire and Emergency Services. Most costs are covered by a grant from the state government, but parents are asked to contribute some payment towards camps, excursions and some parts of the uniform.
