Champions Cup Netball

This year students from Years 7 to 12 were given the opportunity to participate in the state wide netball competition ‘The Champions Cup’. This involved a large number of both public and private schools from all around the Western Australia competing at a day carnival at Kingsway Netball Centre (Term 1). Woodvale Secondary College had nine teams competing in this competition and all girls performed well on the day. The stand out performers were our Year 7/8 ‘A’ division and our Year 9/10 ‘A’ division teams who were undefeated all day and finished top of their zone.

As a result the Year  7/8 ‘A’ team played off against Belridge Secondary College. This game was played at home in our Sports Centre and despite fighting back, Belridge were defeated by two goals. Our Year 9/10 ‘A’ team played off Ashdale in their elimination final. The girls were exceptional and dominated the game winning 40 – 7. Amazing! These girls are now through to the finals day carnival in Fremantle.

Due to winning the Northern suburbs division our Year 9/10 ‘A’ division girls were through to the full day elimination carnival, which was played at Fremantle netball center on 22 July 2016. The girls started the day with a draw against Duncraig. They then had a narrow loss to Melville followed by a win against St Stephens. The girls won their cross over game against Ashdale Secondary College. As a result our girls made it through to the state quarter final - the top eight teams in WA for their division.  Unfortunately the girls lost to Bunbury Catholic College despite fighting hard until the end. The girls did extremely well to make it this far, beating specialist netball schools to make it to the quarter finals for the state.

Throughout this competition the girls showed determination, persistence, sportsmanship and leadership skills. We send a big thank you to our helpers and umpires. Without your support we could not participate in a competition of this size. Congratulations to the girls, you were all fantastic!
