Swimming Success!

Jack W (Year 10) and Rosie W (Year 8) competed at the Swimming WA State Open and Age Short Course Championships over the weekend at HBF Stadium, Claremont. Both had heavy programs but managed to produce personal best times in almost all of their events. Please click “Read More” below for more information about their achievements.

Rosie W had a fantastic meet, with her best event being the 800 metres freestyle in which she won a bronze medal. She also came fourth place in two events and fifth place in another, reflecting her climb up the rankings in WA.

Jack W came away with four medals in his age group – gold in both the 1500 metres freestyle and 200 metres backstroke, silver in the 400 metres freestyle and bronze in the 200 metres butterfly. He also came fourth in the 100 metres and 200 metres freestyle races.

It was a great experience as Jack qualified for the ‘open age’ finals in six events. His time in the 1500 metres and 800 metres freestyle events qualifies him to swim at the Open Short Course National Competition to be held in Adelaide at the end of October. At this event he will experience swimming alongside athletes who were at the Olympics.

At the end of the competition weekend, Swimming WA announced the State Team which includes Jack. This team will travel to Canberra in three weeks to compete against other states in one of the most exciting competitions of the swimming calendar.
