House System

House System: Centaurus, Orion, Pegasus, Phoenix

Students are sorted into four houses in Year 7; Centaurus, Orion, Pegasus and Phoenix. The houses are based on 4 constellations and the House the accumulates the most points throughout the year will win the Constellation Cup.

The House system also plays a major part in school activities such as the swimming and athletics carnivals. Students are awarded House Points through participation in activities and as a reward for positive behaviours. These points are displayed on the House Noticeboard and the SEQTA home page.

In Greek mythology, Centaurus is the father of the race of mythological beasts known as the centaurs or Ixionidae. The centaurs are half-man, half horse.

Orion was a giant huntsman whom Zeus placed among the starts as the constellation of Orion.

Pegasus is a winged divine stallion usually depicted as pure in colour.

Phoenix is a long-lived bird that is cyclically regenerated or reborn.

The House system aims to

  • Increase student engagement within the school through activities focused on collaboration and teamwork.
  • Allow students to participate in activities from all disciplines in the school.
  • Encourage pride and a sense of belonging through participation in activities during homeroom.
  • Encourage interest in school activities through healthy, positive competition between Houses.
  • Recognise a range of student achievements through the use of House points.
